The first song we wrote for this record, inspired by the show mentioned in the notes for track 1. The rest of the album came once we started wondering what ever became of the guy narrating that song, and the girl he was trying to win. So we wrote the rest of the songs to find out. It’s not necessarily a happy story.

LYRICS
This cape don’t make me fly
That’s not the reason why
I wear it
This letter on my chest
Says I’m not like the rest
Declare it!
My utility belt
is ready to deploy
It’s a beautiful world
I won’t let you destroy
I hope you realize
I’m one of the good guys
I hope you realize
I’m one of the good guys
You think that you’ve been cursed
Always expect the worst
And get it
I might not look like much
I’ve been challenged in the clutch
And met it
My utility belt
is ready to deploy
It’s a beautiful world
I won’t let you destroy
I hope you realize
I’m one of the good guys
I hope you realize
I’m one of the good guys
Won’t let yourself believe
You been abused and deceived
By masters
I wade straight through the swill
I will fight and I will kill
The bastards

It's the essence of TMJ to follow up a smart song about the need to forge new memories with a killer that grooves on everything great and awful about the 1970s. Brash, confident, and deeply pleasurable -- and its vibe is punctured by the new old b-side's warning "living backwards in time/losing your mind." As always, TMJ has it all ways, beautifully. Alan S
