Oslo is a city
In the country of Norway
There’s quite a lot to do there
To occupy your day
There’s a Viking museum that’s awesome
There are sculpture parks – they’re free
You can walk on the roof of the opera house
But those aren’t where I’ll be
If we’re ever both in Oslo
And you have the urge to meet
You can almost always find me
In the Nasjonal Museet
I can be even more specific
Cuz one spot there’s the best
I’ll be sitting in room #20
Where I was first impressed
By Edvard Munch’s Madonna
Acted like a tractor beam
Pulling me straight toward it
Though I’d come to see The Scream
It has sex and death
And faith and love
And everything in between
Yeah, Edvard Munch’s Madonna
Is even better than The Scream
Now The Scream is great for sure
And you should look at that one, too
But it’s not the best thing he ever did
It’s not even number two
It maybe comes in fifth
Because even more sublime
Are Edvard Munch’s Madonnas
Which he painted four separate times
One arm stretched behind her head
The other behind her back
She has a bright red halo
Or that might just be a hat
She looks like she’s ecstatic
She looks like she’s asleep
She looks like looking at her
Is supposed to make you weep

It has sex and death

Looking at her does something
Difficult to describe
It releases all these feelings
You try to keep inside
She has a little belly
But it’s sexy all the same
Her nipples are otherworldly
Yeah, I know that that sounds lame
I just mean when he painted her nipple
Well, he captured something more
It has all of life inside it
That right nipple is like a door
To a universe of meaning
An infinity of sex
A world where your desires
Have no negative effects

But it’s clear that they’ve been spread
She had to birth a saviour

More beautiful than God
Except that God’s inside her
The whole thing’s very odd
